Ravenswood Physicians Add
New Hospitals to Serve Patients
September 20, 2000, Chicago
---To better serve their patients, the Ravenswood Physician Associates
(RPA) --- an independent practice association representing ninety percent
of the Ravenswood medical staff --- voted today to add contractual relationships
with two area hospitals: Louis A. Weiss Memorial (a University of Chicago
hospital) and Resurrection healthcare/St. Francis Hospital. The agreements
provide a cooperative relationship between these local hospitals and the
physicians as Advocate Ravenswood Hospital Medical Center merges with
Illinois Masonic Medical Center and changes its service orientation.
The physicians cast their votes
during the RPA's Annual Shareholders Meeting held today at Ravenswood
Hospital. These Ravenswood physicians, who have worked in the community
for many years, were seeking the best possible hospital partnerships in
order to continue providing high-quality and complete healthcare services
to Ravenswood area residents.
RPA CEO Dr. J. Wesley Cook
praised area physicians for their work to bring new options to the Ravenswood
community:
We are thrilled
to be able to provide our patients with new opportunities for quality
healthcare. In an era when healthcare choices seem to be dwindling,
the RPA primary care physicians and specialists brought an expanded,
united vision to the bargaining table. Now patients can rely on their
physicians to be able to recommend specialists and institutions they
can trust.
Each hospital originally responded
to the RPA's Request for Proposals by submitting a proposal, outlining
their services in a Partner Profile, and making a presentation during
a special forum for RPA shareholders.
New contracts will be effective
immediately and the RPA physicians will work with their patients about
how any services or arrangements might change.
The Ravenswood Physician Associates
is an independent practice association comprised of 52 primary care physicians
and 100 specialists. One of the best performers in the Advocate network,
the corporation handles 10,000 covered lives. The RPA is based in Chicago,
IL, and grew out of a need for physicians to manage their practices in
order to guarantee the best possible patient care.
